Pregnancy Testing

Although modern anesthetics are safe during pregnancy, testing is done so that the options can be explained to the young woman prior to surgery.  A urine sample is collected from all females presenting to APASS if they have begun menses.  Alternatively, a serum sample can be tested.  Discussion with the anesthesiologist can help determine the course of action for the woman currently menstruating, or who has secondary amennorhea.
