What is an "Anesthesia Care Team?"
Your child's anesthetic will be administered by members of Children's Anesthesia Care Team. This consists of a Pediatric Anesthesia Associates, P.C. Pediatric Anesthesiologist who will medically direct a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). A Pediatric Anesthesiologist is a Medical Doctor who has completed at least four years of undergraduate college, four years of medical school, and four years or more of specialty training in Anesthesiology with a focus on Pediatric Anesthesiology.
A CRNA is a registered nurse with a minimum of one year experience in critical care nursing (e.g., ICU, CCU, ER) who has passed a national certification exam following graduation from an accredited teaching program where they learn specialized anesthetic management techniques. Since 1990 all such programs have been required to be at the masters degree level.
A physician will be responsible for your child's anesthetic care and will make medical decisions involved with this care. One or more members of the Anesthesia Care Team will be with your child throughout the procedure, closely monitoring the anesthetic, and will accompany your child to the recovery room where you will be delivered into the care of special Recovery Room nurses.
